Uber: A Victory for People Power!

In what is a stunning victory for People Power and should be the play book of the masses, Uber’s CEO Travis Kalanick resigned from Donald Trump’s economic advisory council following enormous criticism and an online boycott of the company. The hashtag #DeleteUber got the ball rolling when it became apparent that Uber’s CEO was happy to hang out with Trump while so many of the company’s drivers were Muslim and from the seven banned countries.

People PowerThe #DeleteUber campaign obviously had an effect and as result, Uber has confirmed it has had to install an automated process to handle account deletions. Lyft in the US and other markets, not the UK, took the alternative path and donated $1m to the ACLU.

However the real victory is one of People Power! It shows that people have power over any company’s actions but voting with their wallets.

Actor Woody Harrelson took his fame to the world and made a movie about how we as people need to do something, stand up and be counted. In this excerpt from his video he very succinctly explains that companies are very sensitive to consumer behaviour and we actually hold the power over them if we just use it.

Watch his passionate, Woody-esque pitch here!
