Johnny Depp’s Turn for Money Woes

Johnny Depp! It really is emotional when you hear that a guy who earns $48 million a year, and is supposedly worth $400 million, has to file a lawsuit against his money managers. But yes it tends to happen more often than you’d think. This time it’s Johnny Depp who’s suing his managers, aptly called the Management Group, for £20 million because they apparently ‘mis-managed’ his money. Remember when Nicholas Cage sued his managers for advising him to by European castles which were overpriced and now worthless.

The great things about someone suing is that so much of the ‘first world problems’ are available for people to see/read. In this case its a cracker.

He said they mis-managed his money to the tune of £20m. Then they counter claimed and outlined his annual spending. They claim he spent more than £59.6m on 14 homes and £2.4m blasting author Hunter S Thompson’s ashes out of a cannon. Depp, they claim, is “fully responsible for any financial turmoil” he faces.

“He has refused to live within his means, despite… repeated warnings about his financial condition,” their counter suit claims. Their legal action, obtained by the Deadline website, also accuses the actor of spending:

  • £14.3m on an 150 foot (45 metre) yacht
  • £3.2m on a failed record label
  • £2.4m to blast Hunter S Thompson’s ashes out of a cannon
  • £238,600 a month to maintain a staff of 40 people
  • £159,00) a month on private planes
  • £119,330 a month on round-the-clock security
  • £23,800 a month on buying and importing wine

‘He also needed 12 storage facilities to house his collection of Hollywood memorabilia, they allege. Last month, Depp claimed The Management Group owed him more than £20m. His lawsuit also alleges the company failed to file his taxes on time, costing him £4.5m in penalties. ‘ according to Deadline.

Bring on the first world problems. We’d like some of the wine!
