Football: Weekend Premier League Predictions

Ready for the weekend action coming up? A little bit of Champions League during the week but come on, we need the premier league to fire things up. Some great games ahead and RamboFYI’s predictions are in.

Bournemouth vs Brighton

Friday night football is back in the Premier League, kicking off with two sides that have struggled for goals despite performing reasonably well in almost all their four games. Bournemouth has had a torrid start having scored just once and lost four times while Brighton has managed a 3-1 win over West Brom.

The Cherries’ desperation to get some points on the board should push them to a nervy victory.

Prediction: 2-1.

Crystal Palace vs Southampton

The sacking of Frank De Boer after just four games in charge of Palace will overshadow the early kick-off on Saturday. Southampton hasn’t quite found its mojo this season having won one, drawn two and lost once, and a tight game at Selhurst Park will probably come down to a set-piece or a defensive error as both sides have looked wobbly at the back.

Prediction: 1-0.

West Brom vs West Ham

The aerial-duel specialists versus the goal-conceding specialists. Strangely enough West Ham managed to keep a clean sheet in its last game, which led to a 2-0 win against Huddersfield, while West Brom conceded two goals from cross-ins against Brighton last week.

The Hammers looked good in the previous match but their fragile defence and the lack of authority Joe Hart displays at set-pieces could be the big problem for them against the Baggies, who love to swing balls into the box.

Prediction: 2-1.

Watford vs Manchester City

I’ve said all season that Watford could be the surprise package of the Premier League this year and they are one of only three teams that are still unbeaten.

The two Manchester clubs are the only other teams yet to lose and unfortunately for Watford, the Sky Blues are their visitors on Saturday. It should be a cracking game with both teams scoring plenty. City looks like it can outscore any team and Watford probably won’t be able to handle the non-stop attacks from Pep Guardiola’s side.

Prediction: 1-3.

Huddersfield vs Leicester

Despite losing last week, Huddersfield has only conceded twice this season (both time in the last outing against West Ham) and visitors Leicester can’t stop leaking goals.

The Yorkshire club is still finding its feet in the Premier League but it has a solid backline with an exceptional counter-attack, reminiscent of the Leicester side that won the title in 2016 and I expect it to use that to perfection against Craig Shakespeare’s men.

Prediction: 1-0.

Liverpool vs Burnley

Champions League football is back at Anfield this week so Liverpool’s squad is expected to be tested in the Premier League.

Burnley on the other hand looks better than ever at the start of this season but has not won any of its nine last visits to Anfield. The Reds should just about secure the points although I am expecting a nervous finish similar to last season’s game.

Prediction: 3-1.

Newcastle vs Stoke

These are two mid-table teams with almost identical records in terms of goals scored and conceded. Both have looked lacklustre going forward and at times have shown frailty at the back.

Rafa Benitez is searching for a key man to carry his side while Stoke looks like it may have found its replacement for Marko Arnautovic in Choupo Moting, who grabbed a brace against Manchester United last week. The game will be decided by which team defends worse, and you can expect an own-goal.

Prediction: 3-2.

Spurs vs Swansea

Swansea’s new-look attack couldn’t do the damage against Newcastle last week and fans are already questioning whether letting go of Gylfi Sigurdsson was a good idea.

Spurs are superb to watch but the Wembley curse has started to look like a very real problem for the Lilywhites.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men have a record of struggling after playing European football and the first group stage game will add to the pressure on the Spurs players.

Despite the odds being stacked against Spurs it’s surely only a matter of time until the curse is over, right?

Prediction: 4-0

Chelsea vs Arsenal

Super Sunday is an absolute cracker kicking off with the London Derby which seems to always deliver goals, red cards and drama.

Arsenal beat Chelsea on penalties in the Community Shield but since then Chelsea has gradually looked stronger whereas the Gunners have gone downhill.

Wenger’s selection decisions will play a pivotal role,  having cost his side the points at Anfield earlier this season with a poor team selection. Being at home will be a big advantage for Chelsea and the return of Eden Hazard will be enough to seal the points for the champions.

Prediction: 3-1.

Manchester United vs Everton

United has started the season in exceptional goal-scoring fashion but did show signs of defensive weakness against Stoke City last week.

Everton has been conceding soft goals and the in-form Romelu Lukaku will be desperate to score against his former club. Wayne Rooney also returns to Old Trafford for the first time since changing clubs and it’s almost fate that he will score against the Red Devils. It looks set to be an emotionally driven goal-fest but I can’t see anything other than a home win.

Prediction: 3-1.
