Football: The Most Influential Voices Online

What is it about football fans and their passion for hearing anybody and everybody’s opinions on the beautiful game? The demand for more voices has allowed people from outside television to step up and be heard but who dominates discussion beyond traditional media?

The True Geordie

A Newcastle United fan by default but a truly football-crazed YouTube sensation. He now hosts his own podcast, which averages more than 700,000 views per video and was the most listened-to podcast on UK iTunes for four weeks straight last season.

He has evolved from recording himself shouting at a cheap camera in his bedroom about his club’s failures to now being one of the loudest and most well-rounded opinions in football. The True Geordie recently signed a deal with the Coral gambling site to host a YouTube equivalent of Soccer Saturday where he talks football with guests.

He’s a beast in size and a beast on the mic. The second you hear his voice everything comes to life and it’s hard to switch off. Honesty is his best trait as he never shies away from telling the truth or giving a full-blown opinion unlike some pundits who side-step issues due to being on television. In short, he’s an articulate, fearless and sometimes reckless YouTube pundit.

IndyKaila News

You know when it’s transfer window time and Twitter seems to be confirming deals faster than Sky Sports? That is normally because of guys like Indy Kaila.

Although he is often criticised for his more ludicrous predictions such as Lionel Messi signing for Manchester City this summer, he wouldn’t have 270,000 followers if he were constantly lying about deals. A self-proclaimed transfer specialist, this summer alone he confirmed 13 deals before television picked them up so you can say whatever you like about him and his Twitter account but the man does often deliver.

His best asset may be the fact that we don’t actually know if he’s one person or there’s a team of people sitting behind the craziest transfer stories you’ll ever hear; either way, he’s relevant and people trust him.

ArsenalFan TV

The ArsenalFan TV team is truly one of the most dominant voices on YouTube. Footballers such as Aaron Ramsey and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have admitted that they watch the show where Arsenal fans typically rant about their club and most of the time about how badly it is being managed.

The insane growth of the channel has led to the likes of Chelsea Fan TV and Everton fans making their own version but nobody can keep up with the loudmouths of ArsenalFan TV.

There aren’t many fans who revel in a defeat for their team but truth be told, nobody enjoys a Gunners defeat more than the guys at AFTV. The number of viewers who swarm around the channel and its live cameras outside a stadium after another Arsene Wenger disaster is simply astonishing.

The Sport Bible

There are not too many accounts in the world that dominate on every social media platform possible but Sport Bible is the rare exception. Publishing more than 25 stories a day just about football and with more than 1.2m Twitter followers and 10m Facebook followers, it’s safe to say it is dominates social media.

Often breaking news and frequently having the most detailed opinions written by one of its 100 guest writers, the SB website always has something new to discover.

The sports version of Lad Bible boasted more views than Sky Sports, Fox Sports and BBC Sports in the last three months so if there’s anyone who is going to take on the more cautious voices of the traditional media, it’s these guys.
