Challenge – Funding Hope to Make Women Safer

The Rosie May Foundation is putting its support behind a pioneering project to get funding for the women driving women campaign. This is a call to women of the world to get behind us and Think Pink Sri Lanka. With less than two weeks to reach our target, we are asking for your help.

Project Hope – Women driving women

Help us break down barriers by training single parent women living below the poverty line who are enrolled on Project Hope to drive tuk tuks and provide safety for other women.

These will be some of the first female tuk tuk drivers across the Southern Province of Sri Lanka! Think Pink tuk tuks provide an income for women drivers and safety for women using them.

Costs include: lessons, insurance, personal safety course and a highly visible pink tuk tuk for women and girls.

The Rosie May Foundation has been accepted onto GlobalGiving’s September Accelerator, running from the 11th to the 29th September, 2017. If we raise £3,800 from at least 40 donors over the next 2 weeks we will become a permanent partner of GlobalGiving which will help us to help others.

We need YOUR support in funding Think Pink so we can train more women and provide safe journeys for women and girls.

Why we need your help!

According to the UN, 90% of women aged between 15-35 questioned in a survey in Sri Lanka stated that they had suffered some form of sexual harassment while using public transport.

There appears to be no policy to protect women and girls on public transport in Sri Lanka. Only 4% of those who have suffered harassment have reported it to the police. Benefits for passengers:

Safe journeys on transport with no risk of sexual harassment. Benefits for women drivers: Reliable source of income for single parent mothers to help lift their families out of poverty.

Where your donation will go

£8 will pay for a medical for a female driver.

£13 covers the cost of one training course.

£26 pays for a tuk tuk driving test.

£2,500 for one tuk tuk
