How to dress for work this Spring/Summer

With the winter weather slowly getting warmer, it’s time to start thinking about transitioning your wardrobe to fit with the seasons and dress for work. Although it isn’t spring yet, the new Spring/Summer17 trends are slowly going to trickle into stores. It’s especially difficult to dress appropriately for work when the temperatures rise so now is a good time to start planning and preparing for the warmer weather.

dress for workRuffles were big for winter and this trend will carry over for spring. The best ruffled shirts that are chic and also professional fall just off the shoulder. Cool enough for some spring breeze, but covered enough to not be risqué to dress for work, and chic enough to make all your colleagues jealous. Ellery, although at a premium price tag, does beautiful ruffled blouses that fit perfectly with tapered trousers and can be bought from Browns on South Molten Street.

Whether or not your office has a strict dress code, two-piece suits are a must this coming season and is great for trans-seasonal dressing. This trend can be made personal and tailored to your body shape. Suits can be worn as a more streamline feminine silhouette or oversized depending on your preference. Tailoring doesn’t necessarily mean fitted and tight- you can tailor a look to your body’s needs. Keep colours tonal to keep it work appropriate and be wary not to overdo the whole mix-and-match idea.

If you have a good eye for prints and colours feel free to play around a bit, but if you’re slightly unsure play it safe in a navy pinstriped suit that will never go out of style.

If you have a more relaxed dress-code at work, mid-length and maxi flowing skirts are perfect for the warmer days. Comfort dressing is still at the forefront of fashion and long flowing skirts are perfect to feel unrestricted and also feminine. My ideal skirt would be from Chloe but that’s far out of my budget so I go to Zara for the next best (and affordable). Prints and bold graphics are taking over this season so don’t be afraid to be adventurous and buy a bright skirt with a daring print – you’ll be praised later.

The must-have shoe this season to dress for work is a lace-up ballet flat which is great if you have a long day at work. This shoe can be work to work and also on weekends for more casual-wear. The lace up looks great with calf-grazing skirts to show the shoe off while also remaining professional and bohemian (who knew this combination would work?!). With prints being bold on clothing, don’t overdo it with colourful ballet flat.

Be mindful of looking for neutral coloured shoes to make it more versatile and fit with more outfits so you can make the most out of this purchase.
