Whether you’re generation X or generation Z, dressing casual is turning into more of an individual social and political statement. It has become cool to care and voicing your political opinions through fashion is slowly becoming the norm. Whether you care about gender, race, sexuality or climate change, the digital age has shown that dressing more experimental and bold is a way to voice your opinions to the masses. You can create an image of yourself both on and offline now and it couldn’t be easier to show your beliefs without saying a word.
The slogan tee is coming back into fashion as it becomes a vehicle for personal and individual expression. The band slogan tee is also going to be just as big as the political one, so get ready for another season of comfort with the return of the beloved T-Shirt. You can buy slogan tees starting at a tenner from ASOS, Topshop and H&M.
You can also get some good tees from Illustrated People who recently collaborated with Ed Hardy. For those with a higher budget, Gucci, Paco Rabanne and Moschino have a range of great tees ready to snap up in stores now. The sports logo tee also isn’t going anywhere so don’t feel that you need to archive your Fila tees just yet (unless you’re now able to afford the new Gucci logo tee…).
With sport-luxe and comfort remaining a large trend, loose fitting boyfriend jeans remain the popular choice for weekend and dressing casual. My favourite pair of jeans for aesthetics, price and comfort are from Monki which can be found along Carnaby Street. If you’re looking for something just as comfortable as loose fitting jeans but a little more chic while walking around London, straight and wide leg trousers are more popular than ever.
For a day-time casual look, wear low to mid rise twill trousers. To make your night-time look effortless and cool, wear some high waisted stretch crepe trousers and stay comfortable all night.
Joseph does great trousers for women that can be worn both casually and for work depending on how you style the outfit with accessories and shoes. Another trend that is emerging (that I don’t think I can pull off, unfortunately) is the tracksuit bottom. The ultimate comfort, but be careful how you style it; think about what shoes you wear with your tracksuit bottoms if you want to remain chic and comfortable without looking trashy.
The Spring/Summer shoe of the season is the ballet flat. The IT shoe of the season comes from Miu Miu and both high street and luxury brands have tried to replicate this lace wrap ballet flat due to its popularity on social media from bloggers. Ballet flats are comfortable and incredibly versatile. It’s easy to wear ballet flats with jeans, skirts, dresses and trousers and there’s reason for its resurrected popularity. Mix and match your lace up straps to replicate Miu Miu’s style and add some flare to your personal style.
