If you’ve managed to navigate both branches of the Northern line, cope with the searing heat of the Central line and get to work in one piece you deserve a medal…
However, managing to do your make-up in conditions where Paul from I.T. has his smelly armpit in your face is a life skill in itself. Here are a few make-up tips to get you from Acton Town to Barking quicker than you can say “Please mind the doors”.
The trick is to do your base at home, so make sure to moisturise and apply your primer and foundation before you run out the door. The rest can be done on the Tube….
Multi-purpose products
You’ve probably seen those YouTube tutorials where a natural look takes 45 minutes, and we’re pretty sure you’d rather spend that extra time in bed. The video will also list 20 products, so unless you have space in your bag to carry them all, multi-purpose products are the way forward.
NARS has you covered with their “Multiple” stick range, which comes in plenty of shades with a creamy sheer formula that blends effortlessly. They can be used on the eyes, lips and cheeks and work best when applied with your fingers.
The warmth of your skin gives it a more natural finish and makes it blend onto the skin better. No brushes necessary!
Another product that may not appear multi-purpose at first is an eyeliner – they make great lipliners and often are more highly pigmented. Try a brown eyeliner with a nude lipstick for a nod to the ‘90s look. Nostalgia at it’s finest…
Go travel size…
Travel-sized products give you more space in your bag, allow you to leave your better make-up at home and are a great way to try new products. Benefit do a great range of minis from highlighters and bronzers to mascaras which will give you an added shine (that isn’t sweat) when you waltz into the office.
Getting that feline liner
Make sure to keep your elbows steady and locked when applying eyeliner. The best way to get that flick as sharp as the brakes on the Piccadilly line is to apply it when the Tube is stationary. Try to remain as tight as you can to the waterline but if all else fails you can smudge and hope for the best. We hear that ”lived in”’ make-up is the new trend anyway.
Etiquette
We know that Paul from I.T. may gawk and tut at people doing their make-up on the Tube because he’s just that kinda guy but you should be mindful when applying make-up. Don’t be that person who places their bag on another seat, starts clipping their nails or refuses to move when people want to get on or off the carriage. The same goes for when applying make-up – try and keep it to where you are standing or sitting and we’re sure you’ll be prepped and primed in no time.
These tips aren’t just for the Tube – they also they work for cross-country rickety train journeys, those short-haul European flights and of course the bus.
