Sometimes in life, you just have to raise your glass and show you respects to another man. On this occasion, Luis Suarez is that man. Everybody wants to win, some people just want it more – that right there is the difference between a winner and a loser. Suarez is a winner and if you think he’s a cheat, you’re a loser.
After Barcelona’s huge comeback in a near impossible position versus PSG, everybody praised Neymar, criticised Messi but forgot about the man who instigated the victory. He’s a man who will do anything to win. Just before winning the penalty that pulled the win closer for Barcelona, Suarez had tested the referees resolve by throwing himself over a soft challenge, he took the booking but he had just taken a giant step towards the referee making an error.
The atmosphere was electric, the pressure was on, all of the eyes in the footballing world were on this game and so the referee was of course going to come under some pressure. Luis is a professional at sizing up a task, taking it into his stride and then doing anything to make it happen.
He did it again – 10 minutes after he was booked for diving, he roared the fans to get going again almost as if to say – this is our time now, the referee should feel it because he’s against us too. What happens next? Suarez receives a long punt from Messi, feels an arm across his chest and falls to the ground. Not a penalty on any day of the week, apart from the day Lui-cito is on the pitch. Penalty given and scored, that was Barcelona’s tie-winning moment. The referee had caved in, the fans had jumped onto his back and Luis had just got all eyes on him again.
Some of you may absolutely hate the fact that he did it. But apart from his biting fiasco’s and everything else. Lets not forget this man threw himself towards a ball inside his goal to prevent it from going in using his hands, got sent off and celebrated when the opposing player (Gyan) missed his penalty. He’s a winner. He’ll do anything to win. We only really see British fans having a go at him, but look who’s in the Champions League and look who isn’t? Frankly – nice guys finish last and Suarez isn’t a nice guy but that’s why he’s ahead of every Premier League fan that claims to hate him because he cheats.
Call it cheating or whatever you want, he’s a genius in his own way. He did it again, fooled us all to think he had lost that side of him. Took a tumble that we’ll all soon forget, he’ll lift the Champions League trophy at the end of the season and what will we all do? Go trigger happy and tweet some hate at him? See if he cares.
