Bayern’s Era Coming to an End?

Let me start by saying, even though Bayern’s era is coming to an end, they can still hammer every team in the Premier League for fun (10-2 ring any bells?), that’s how far behind the Premier League is.

But Bayern could be facing a much deeper problem, why you might ask? Firstly, not only do the German giants have a slow progressing youth team, they’ve also not produced a Lahm-level talent from their system for over 5 years, which has alarm bells ringing.

bayernMaybe a big part of that problem is that Munich have endless cash that they can spend on buying any players they want? Or the fact that the rest of the Bundesliga is pushed by Bayern to selling their best players.

Lets look at this team though. Take out Bayerns top 5 players, they have an average age of 28.8, meaning in around 2 years, the key men won’t be at Bayern anymore and I don’t see anyone taking over any time soon. Where does that leave the Germans?

That might not be their only problem though, there’s been a sudden rise this season of teams standing up to Bayern with no fear. You get the feeling that Dortmund’s charge for titles every season has come to an end, they’ve had their phase. But the rise of RB Leipzig has been pretty nuts! An unknown team, rises into Bundesliga and has Bayern shaking in their boots; not only that, they’ve got a huge pot of money to compete for top players too and the current average age of their first 11 is 24. Meaning most of that team isn’t even peaking yet.

Bayern have one final problem – management. Every Tom, Dick and Harry has managed them, so where next? Pep has achieved everything there so won’t go back but has set the bar so high, whoever comes in has to be perfect and if you’re not as perfectly bald in your wins as Pep is with his haircut, you’re not going to last long.

There’s still something there for Bayern, don’t get me wrong, but if the Premier League teams were sharp, this is the time to use the Germans transitional phase to gain some yards on them in the Champions League, instead we’re getting red a**ed in the last 16 and asking managers to leave half way through the season. You don’t see that chaos in Germany – ever. So I guess they’ll get past their phase quickly, drop off for a year, get back in in two years and teach me, you and the rest of the PL to not write them off, ever.

In all fairness, Bayern have been in the last 4 of the Champions League 13 times since the Champions League began in 1994/95 so yeah, the era might be coming to an end…at 10-2 never.
