Find Great Yoga Studios in London

Yoga heals not only the body but also the mind and soul. City dwellers, however, are hard-pressed for time and locations to indulge in this soothing and rejuvenating activity. Here is a list of places in and around London where you can go for some great healing and calming yoga.

Indaba

yoga

After just one class, you’ll be hooked for sure at Indaba, which literally translated means “gathering”. Yoga enthusiasts gather here not just for exercise, but for the great ambience with its fresh flowers, incense, thick carpets, candles and music. The studios are clean and tidy.

Indaba offers a wide variety of classes – you can drop in for £13 or take a 10-day (consecutive) course for £30.

There are three treatment rooms for private sessions and a hot studio. Amenities include showers with shampoo and soap, changing rooms, towels, hair dryers and lockers.

The mats are cleaned every day and there are a number of props and a rope wall for Iyanger classes. Movement for Modern Life teachers often visit Indaba to take classes and workshops. The list includes stalwarts like Kristi Johnson, Emma Henry, Sally Parkes, Saskia Vidler, Leila Sadeghee and Naomi Absalom.

A spirit of community and friendship dominates with people greeting one another by first name after the first session. Tea is complimentary and snacks and drinks are available for purchase. The two studios can house up to 70 participants each.

Power Yoga Company

yoga

Driven by the lack of a place to practice, the Power Yoga Company was started by Marie-Laure and Amelie, two teenagers who met in France and trained together in Miami.

The duo put together a team of highly trained and experienced teachers who have distinguished themselves with their own personal style of practice. The mission of these two yoga enthusiasts is to bring Eastern philosophy into Western lifestyle by spreading the message of the East.

Power Yoga is about understanding and loving your body. It’s about building your inner strength along with your outer physique. It’s not about attaining complicated postures, but instead it’s about a series of simple postures to bring you closer to your inner self, thereby strengthening your body and mind.

The exercise helps improve flexibility while the meditation melts away stress. You will feel more energetic and youthful – and experience a fluidity in movement that will greatly reduce the risk of falling and injury.

There are a broad range of classes including near-extinct practices like Mysore and Dharma Mittra. Although the practices are ancient, the two studios – one hot one temperate – are ultra-modern, fitted out with humidifiers, heating and cooling. Both studios have wide windows to let in natural light. Candles and incense are reserved for evening classes. Mats are clean and provided free of cost.

Showers and changing rooms are stocked with accessories such as hand and bath towels, soap and shampoo. You are welcome to bring your own kit if you prefer.
