Can Anyone Explain the NHS Crisis?

Most people adore the NHS as it’s a truly great health service for all of Britain. It’s also a truly great health service for anyone who comes to Britain. It’s a National Health Service which means the Government pays for it with UK tax revenue. OK none of this is up for debate, we think?

The part which is so difficult to understand is why there are always these shocker stories about the ‘funding crisis’ or ‘disappointments in reaching targets set 13 years ago. To clarify, the Government set a 4 hour target for A+E which never get met.

NHSThe most recent crisis was revealed that 86% of A+E entrants missed the 4 hour window. The figure of 13 hours in many cases is astounding. Imagine you’ve broken your legs in a road accident, chipped your tooth and have to wait 13 hours in a crammed waiting room to be seen in A+E?

So the Minister, Jeremy Hunt come out and says its ‘completely unacceptable” and the changes being made are ‘disappointingly slow’ and “It is incredibly frustrating for me’ and on and on it goes. Every time reports come out, which trend badly, every time, he rolls out these key words, which are really political speak for ‘show regret.’

He also mentioned that the Government has spent an additional £4 billion on the NHS. But never is there a sense of whether that is great or meaningless.

Is the problem money?

If it is, then why doesn’t the Govt. pay for it? Why don’t they ask the voting public if they would prefer to spend less here, spend more there. It seemed to get a pretty good response in the Gove/BoJo Brexit tour de force. An extra £350m a week on the NHS.

So what we’d love to know more than anything is whether the NHS problems are just money related? Have your say!
